Throughout the last week, I experienced the spark of innovation and power of success. Last Wednesday, I attended the Women in Leadership Symposium in Dallas. With this experience I was able to meet and listen to the life-experiences of Chandra McCormack, CFO of Greyhound, Holly Platek, VP of HR at The Michaels Companies, and Lina Thompson, VP of Administration & Diversity at DFW Airport. By attending this conference, I was able to understand how such powerful women have not only challenged themselves but what their mindsets where like in time of conflict. The biggest take away I had in this symposium was the “20 seconds of courage”. The “20 seconds of courage” was something used when there is a conflict or sense of hesitation in the midst of obtaining something you desire. For example, if I thought I deserved a job promotion or I thought a strategy was being used incorrectly, though I find the confrontation of the situation to be difficult and might steer away from making my opinions hear, I would use the “20 seconds of courage” to show what I really want and to display my true opinions for others to hear. It is the fact that I only have to act courageous or out of my comfort zone for 20 seconds, and maybe everything, my life can be changed and steered in the direction I want to walk towards. As for One Thread, last meeting, the bracelet fundraiser has officially begun! We made our first couple of bracelets last meeting and I am really excited to see how the sales go! I am planning on selling one bracelet for two dollars and two bracelets for three dollars. Personally, I find the bracelets to be really trendy and pretty. We make them by wrapping a piece of strap fabric with embroidery string with stringing a heart bead in the middle of the bracelet. Therefore, as this week moves forward, I am looking forward to see how the fundraiser will go as well as any other opportunities that might come!
