Throughout the last week, I learned to enjoy opportunity.
As I did not have a mentor visit last week due to the DECA State Competition, I gained and have learned an immense of knowledge from the competing in the DECA Competitions. Because my event for the DECA Competitions was Start-Up Business Plan and me wanting to pursue One Thread as a real organization later on in life, I wanted to test the effectiveness of the One Thread idea in the competition. However, I did have to tweak the model of the original One Thread business model, therefore, it was not a completely accurate representation. Although, though facing DECA Districts, I was judged by a man that gave me an immense amount of new ideas and contributions such as expanding donation places and incorporate new marketing tactics to better produce revenue. I undoubtedly learned most at that competition. Although the State DECA was supposedly to have more critical and stern judges, the judge I received listened through my presentation and ended with a basic question. After receiving the minimal feedback, I was not sure if I had explained myself and my idea to where it seemed overwhelming or too successful to where she could not think of a more difficult question for me to answer or if she was simply not intrigued by the idea. Although I did not seem to pass to qualify for the DECA National Competitions, thus seeing that my last judge did not seem as interested after all, and received minimal feedback and despite the fact that I would have enjoyed receiving more feedback regardless of if it was good or bad, I learned to just let go of wanting more and enjoying the experience. Because, in the end, it is not about winning but about the mentality and outcome of the experience
Therefore, I am moving on with a thankful heart, regardless of how badly I had wished to continue to the DECA National Competitions, and appreciate all of the opportunities I have been provided with so far.
