Through the past week, I learned to write a project proposal and how to further connect with companies, not just individuals.
With meeting with Mrs. Pauline Holmes last week, she motivated me to write a proposal to better the connection between One Thread and the school or community. This resulted in me trying to come up with different ways to do so to not only promote One Thread and the cause behind it but also to motivate students to take action in their community as well. Although this proposal was meant to be about connection One Thread to the school or community, I directed this towards creating a better solution to one of the issues in One Thread’s quilt producing process: where the all the fabric scraps end up. Originally, we were planning on making a huge stuffed animal and filling it with the scraps. Yet, a problem with this solution is that it takes up mass amounts of time to produce such a huge toy. Thus, I thought of a new solution: to partner with a stuffed animal producing company and using their rejected stuffed animal skins. With this idea, One Thread would be more connected with the community, specifically a bigger company, and also be reducing One Thread and the companies’ fabric waste in a more time efficient manner.
And so, because now my new mission is to reach out to different toy companies, asking if they would like to collaborate with One Thread, I have been creating a list of companies in which to contact and formulating the emails that I will send to them. In order to do so, I am having my proposal reviewed and all of the digital portfolios for not only me by One Thread updated so that I am able to send them the links. Therefore, I should be contacting the companies very soon as I am extremely excited to do so!
Furthermore, in One Thread, we are continuing to build our first quilt. We have already cut out all of the fabric needed to make the first quilt, so now most of the next steps will be of me sewing up the blanket. I am also asking a friend from Wingspan if she could stop by and get some footage of the club, and hopefully, One Thread can be featured as a story on Liberty Wingspan.
Therefore, I am satisfied with the progress I have learned this week and am excited to see what lies ahead next week.
