From last week, I learned to real significance behind treasuring the little milestones in my ISM journey.
Last Wednesday, I performed my first, “real” ISM speech regarding the research and interviews I have been doing as well as my original work. Overall, the speech went fairly well, besides the pre-speech nervousness. Because I do not prefer public speaking, I am relieved the speech is over. Although I encountered a bittersweet moment afterward in that I was glad I would not have to speak publicly in a while, knowing that the first-speech hurdle was jumped over made me realize how fast I was moving along my ISM journey. I have the feeling of excitement to continue and grow, yet the feeling of sadness due to knowing I will no longer have the excitement of wanting to overcome “firsts” lingers with me a bit. These feelings also came with me finding my mentor this past Friday. Mrs. Pauline Holmes became my official ISM mentor a few days ago, and I am absolutely thrilled to be working with her guidance through the rest of this school year. Again, although I feel this joy, I know that the feeling will fade and I will miss that feeling of accomplishing my “firsts”.
For One Thread, we are having our first social during Thanksgiving Break at a local Goodwill for our members to fo thrifting with the officers and I. I hope there is a large turnout, yet many people are with family on Friday, so I am not sure of the attendance.
On the contrary to having the bittersweet feelings, I know that more exciting things are to come and that the “bitter” half of the “bittersweet” will be made up by them. I am currently helping Mrs. Holmes plan for her calendar next year, so I hope to learn more and more about planning such massive events for organizations in the social entrepreneurship field. I am also still working on the 2.0 version of my website, thus so tuned!
