Through the last week, I have understood more about the technique of gaining social media presence as well as how to plan effectively.
With meeting Mrs. Holmes last Friday, from her, I learned how she stays active on social media. She taught me that in order to effectively promote One Thread, I need to first connect with other organizations also in the beginning stages like One Thread is. This is done by following hashtags and commenting on others’ posts with sincere thoughts. To me, it seemed much easier before, assuming it is posting an aesthetic feed as well as engaging with other people, yet it is more difficult in that I need to develop of liking and supporting others’ on social media daily. Because I do not have the habit of that, the concept is something I need to learn how to digest and practice. In addition, finding material to post and keeping captions relevant to the overall account and mission is important as well. It is like writing a huge essay with the thesis being the mission statement of the organization. Therefore, everything attached to how the organization is marketed or advertised needs to link back to the goals and missions of such organization. Therefore, we have been planning Queens and Future Queens’ Instagram for the next few weeks along with One Thread’s Instagram account. I think this will really help me better understand how to effectively get One Thread out into the public and have more people know more about it.
For One Thread, more people came last week which was an improvement! I invited a few friends to come and so they showed at the last meeting. I am still working on the first quilt although, we have cut up enough squares for several quilts already. More and more people are also donating their clothes, so I think that the members are more actively engaged as well! Although, with the friends of mine coming to the last meeting, they seemed a little bored, in that maybe the activity is too simple. They said that it was good that the task was simple and relaxing, yet, with more events next year, I feel that it will help them be more excited to come back and participate. I also remembered an idea that I had a while ago: a school-hosted car wash raising money for One Thread and someone in need of financial assistance. I think that is a good way to start my final product and promote the club even more.
For the coming week, I hope to finish my original work, the One Thread website, and the plans for the social media posts for One Thread. Keep going!
