With experiencing last week, I have understood the need for flexibility and a positive mindset.

Through the last several days, I have been communicating and scheduling with professionals interested in an interview. By communicating with technology, I have noticed that being specific and detailed oriented is key to having clear communication with others due to the lack of in-person explanation. In addition to talking with them, I had several scheduling conflicts regarding meeting up to set up interview or interviews being canceled. Although, I understand they have busy schedules as they are working professionals involved in various activities. Thus, though I hold no grudge or annoyance, through experiencing these issues, the message of needing the quality of being flexible shined through. I realized that being flexible and being well organized regarding my calendar and agenda was going to be a habit I will continue throughout ISM and my life.

Similarly, through these scheduling conflicts and other situations, I have motivated myself to withhold a positive mindset. Upon the need to change interview times, there was some disappointment, yet I knew that they were busy. Instead of letting negative “what if” thoughts come through my head, I realized not thinking about it really kept me from being pessimistic. Moreover, when One Thread’s Informational Meeting was held last Thursday, very few people attended. In my opinion, that is what crushed me the most, yet I tried to stay positive. I remembered the people that went and cherished the feeling of someone coming in, knowing not to hold such high expectations. Yet, it was unfortunate because the meeting was held at a busy time for everyone and thus many could not attend. Though, if I had let the negative thought of “They don’t like me” or “they don’t want to support One Thread”, I think my drive would have lessened. So, I want to be able to keep that positive mindset and to not let the little things get to me.

On the other hand, some more positive events that occurred this week was experiencing my first interview. In my first interview, I learned that professionals are people as well. Professionals, in my opinion, can be intimidating. Though talking to an experienced professional in a friendly manner taught me to relax and not to be afraid. In addition, regarding One Thread, I sorted out all of the current t-shirts and supplies, and it helped me calm down more than I thought. I think the simple task of organizing paired with the organized supplies being from One Thread, the excitement and re-exploring my values of One Thread were refreshed. I enjoyed it because it helped me relax and, again, think positive regarding the looking back of what I have accomplished so far, and just “being in the moment” caused me to cherish the beginning of One Thread and the journey that will lie ahead.

In conclusion, I hope to perform more professionally in my upcoming interviews and learn more about other nonprofits’ journeys in the field. Moreover, I aspire to gain at least 25 members in One Thread through promoting One Thread in Liberty High School’s Club Fair. Ultimately, I hope to remain thinking positive and being patient to become a more professional student and person.
