This week, I have learned to let go of others expectations and simply be myself.
With last Wednesday being the day of the ISM Business Symposium, I originally was very nervous about how others would portray me and my personality. Although I understand my first impression is crucial to becoming reliable connections with others, I was slightly too attached to this idea of my reputation is solely based off of what others thought of me instead of how I carried myself. Thus, as a result of catching this attachment, I let go the thought of others expectations of me. Instead, I would just be me and not hope, but know that I am good enough. This really built confidence in me and helped me jump over the barrier of trying to match others expectations of me when meeting them. I became more fearless and connected with more people because of it. Therefore, with this experience at the symposium, I transformed myself a bit in regards to how I project myself and my mindset when introducing myself to others or networking in the real world. Because of this, I was able to meet and connect with other professionals that had a nonprofit, gave me advice for displaying myself, or talked to me about financial advice for starting my own nonprofit.
Moreover, One Thread’s meeting last Thursday afternoon went even better than the previous. Almost fifteen students attended the meeting, and we have cut up enough squares to make one side of a quilt already! Thus, because this first quilt is my original work, I think I might be done with it extremely soon, which is exciting and terrifying. I will be focusing on sewing the quilt up and finishing as well as looking forward to correcting mistakes or making innovations along the way. I expect more and more members due to spreading the word out and promoting One Thread on social media soon. Therefore, I will keep One Thread thriving and my original work moving along.
Therefore, for next week, I am excited to meet with more professionals in the field as watch One Thread keep progressing.
