Over the last few weeks, including spring break, I made major movements along my journey towards transforming One Thread into a nonprofit organization.

The first major step I took was completing my first meeting with the One Thread board of directors through the video chatting program, Zoom. In the meeting, we talked mainly about One Thread team expectation, environment, progress in the nonprofit organization registration, and the paperwork currently finished for the One Thread organization. At the end of the meeting, we also assigned tasks for each of us to complete by our next meeting in two weeks as well as having lunch in person to get to know each other better.

Another great step was getting clarification from my online interview with Ms. Goodlow, the Owner and Founder of the nonprofit organization, The R.O.S.E. Foundation, and Goodlow Consulting, where she assists others in forming nonprofit organizations. Because she has experience in the registration process, I thought having this interview with her would allow me to ask her for nonprofit organization registration clarification, and it did! We discussed the specific forms to file as well as what order to file the legal documents. She also recommended website domain companies and registered agents that are low in cost.

Due to the COVID-19 virus preventing students from attending school, the One Thread club meetings have stopped. Thus, I’m worried that the quilts will not be able to be completed or even donated in this time of quarantine. However, another major loss will be the profits gained from our annual school fundraiser. Therefore, the board of directors will need to figure out a way to rapidly finish our One Thread website and add on an online store for supporters to purchase our products!

With meeting with the board of directors and getting a better sense of direction with Ms. Goodlow’s guidance, I feel like I’ve been re-motivated and less frustrated with the registration process. I’m extremely excited to see what the board can do as a team and One Thread becoming a nonprofit organization!
