From last week, I learned how the true meaning of social entrepreneurship.

Last Wednesday, I conducted an interview with Mr. Peter Hirsch and Mrs. Karen Hirsch. With the information they gave during the interview, I am now able to understand more clearly what the field of social entrepreneurship means and represents. They defined the field of social entrepreneurship to be the combination of technological skills, money management, and business savviness of a traditional business with nonprofit values with goals of creating a sustainable change. Thus, the social entrepreneurship field encaptures qualities from multiple areas and uses those traits from a typical business and nonprofit to better the world. When I heard this definition, I thought of social entrepreneurship as, almost, the “all mighty” in that the field uses qualities and traits that are familiar to the public, their need to consume a product from the social enterprise, yet uses that profit to fulfill a mission to better the world. Thus, understanding the definition from Mr. and Mrs. Hirsch reminded me of how great the social entrepreneurship field really is. In addition, all throughout my journey in the field, I have had a brief grasp of what the concrete definition of the field really was. Therefore, having provided the definition they have created helped me formulate a clearer understanding, and because it made me better understand the whole field, it is one of the most important and favorable topics I have learned in the interview.

As for One Thread, due to Mrs. Berendt going on a field trip that day, I decided to cancel the meeting. However, I did not remember she would be gone until I walked to her room after school than seeing her room empty. Thus, as a way I could improve is to be more organized and knowledgeable. I have to be more aware of what is going on and message others prior to the potential, canceled meetings.

In conclusion, the most important takeaway for me from this past week was developing a better understanding of the social entrepreneurship field. Through this week, I will begin getting professionals to agree on mentorships and internships, thus I am extremely excited for it to happen. Likewise, I am thrilled to finish my original work soon.
