Through the last few weeks in ISM, I have learned the importance of being organized and the need to be fearless.
For me, the past few weeks in ISM have consisted of contacting mentors and the continuation of building my foundation in the professional world, involving developing my network, resume, and writing my first few research assessments. Though most of these experiences were new, such as scheduling with unfamiliar professionals and writing research assessments, I found them enjoyable yet, on the contrary, a bit intimidating. Overall, I feel that I thought they were intimidating primarily for the reason being my lack of planning upon approaching these projects. I found myself only looking at that current week’s deadlines instead of viewing the first couple of weeks as a whole. Therefore, my lack of organization really made me feel more and more pressured, thus watching myself plan more ahead is something I will definitely try to improve on.
In addition to needing to plan further ahead, I have also realized the importance of being fearless. When connecting more professionals over the past few weeks, I have begun calling and messaging more people. Even though, in my opinion, I can handle rejections, I found myself feeling nervous taking the first few initial “big steps”. Leaving messages and scheduling interview is not as simple as I anticipated, yet I was able to grow to pass some fear and score some potential interviews. Looking back, I was only able to get the interviews I have through the past couple of days because during those times, I was more focused on the potential outcome of the initiated conversation instead of being afraid professionals might view me as immature or improper. Thus, I am glad my courage for learning is beginning to shine through this past year, and I hope to continue being more fearless and outspoken.
As for One Thread, I have confirmed that the first club meeting, the informational meeting, will be held this coming week! I am utmostly excited and thrilled this little dream of mine is beginning to blossom. The powerpoint and flyers are being made and almost on their way to the public! I have also signed up One Thread for Liberty High School’s Club Fair on the 25th, so I am stoked to promote One Thread throughout the student body and hopefully, gain more and more students to partake in One Thread this school year.
In conclusion, I hope to grow more in the following weeks. I aspire to perform more professionally and confidently in my upcoming interviews as well as in front of my fellow peers. In addition, I aim to gain at least 25 members in One Thread this school year, so I will try to perform my best in that regards. I am already satisfied with how much I have grown already so far, thus I am curious about how much I will grow through the next few weeks.
